Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start volunteering?

Most of the volunteer opportunities take place during the school year and you can begin volunteering at any time. Ideally, we would like you to start at the beginning of the school year and continue until the end of that school year. However, there are always students waiting for a tutor or mentor, so please sign up at any time.

How will I know what to do when working with the students?

There are training programs for mentoring, homework help, and tutoring programs.
The training programs will equip you with the skills to effectively and efficiently prepare and conduct each session.

How do I sign up to be a volunteer?

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at Trinity River Mission, first we would like to say thank you. You are one step closer to improving the life of a child. Second, we would like you to fill out the Volunteer Application Form. All volunteers must sign a release for a Criminal Background check, attend an Orientation, and interview with the program coordinator. Someone will contact you after receiving your application. Also feel free to contact Deisy Martinez, Outreach Manager, for further information at 214-744-6774 ext. 107 or by e-mail at dmartinez@trinityrivermission.org.

I don’t have much time to volunteer on a regular basis. Is there another way for me to help Trinity River Mission?

Absolutely! There are several ways you can help make a difference at TRM besides being a regular volunteer. Here are some opportunities:

  • Help spread the word about Trinity River Mission. Add a link from your personal or company web page to TRM.

  • Donate office supplies or reading materials.
  • Participate in the various TRM fundraising events. See the TRM Calendar of Events for details.
How much time will I be required to spend each week as a volunteer?

As a volunteer for Trinity River Mission, you can have a significant positive impact on the lives of one or more children. There are several different opportunities for you to choose from and a variety of ways you can help. You can choose a program that fits your schedule. The programs and time requirements are described on the commitment chart.
